About 1 in 6 (%) of lesbian, gay, and bisexual adults smoke cigarettes, compared with about 1 in 9 (%) of heterosexual/straight adults. 1 Smoking increases your risk for lung cancer, heart disease, chronic bronchitis, and other smoking-related diseases.

For many gay people like myself, cigarettes constitute one of the most enduring relationships in our lives and, as in Stockholm Syndrome, we've convinced ourselves we need this abusive partner.
